Kahenawai Hirata

2022 - 2023 MHC Intern

Aloha, I am Kahenawai Hirata, a recent graduate of Molokai High School's Class of 2023. I have been taking early college credits throughout my high school years with U.H. Maui College-Molokai Education Center. I'll be attending the University of Hawaii Manoa in the Fall of 2023 to study Psychology. My goal is to become a Doctor in Clinical Social Psychology.  I enjoy reading and being involved in my community. One of the ways I am involved in my community is by volunteering and interning with local Moloka'i organizations that help to give back to our island of Moloka'i, and the Moloka'i Hunting Club does a good job of doing that!  So, I decided to volunteer with the Molokai Hunting Club and learn about all the different ways they help our island. Both of my parents are active club members so it is easy for me to help at different events that Moloka'i Hunting Club is a part of. "Be part of the solution."

Aloha! My name is Kilinoe-Leilia Miguel, I am an upcoming Sophomore at Molokai High School. I enjoy Hunting, Painting, and Lei making. With the High School's new focus being on preparing their students for their career path; this past year I focused on classes and internships that would prepare me for the business and healthcare administration industry. My internship with Molokai Hunting Club has created a lot of experience and opportunities to help me prepare for my career choice.

OD2A-C3 Fellows

The OD2A-C3 Project is a grant-funded program by the CDC Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Project through the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health, Behavioral Health Administration, Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD) and is managed by a team from the Department of Social Work, Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The project also coordinates with community partners in effort to leverage community strengths and local resources to increase the readiness to respond and address prevention needs. Thus, the Hawaiʻi OD2A-C3 project increases awareness and education about the risks of opioids and other drugs and strengthens the state and local capacity to respond to the opioid epidemic. Hampton Davis (Kalaʻi)

2023 OD2A-C3 Fellow

Aloha my name is Hampton Davis but I'm typically referred to as Kalaʻi. I live on the east side of Molokaʻi and am actively involved in supporting Molokaʻis community by becoming a resource in terms of substance abuse and overdose prevention. The organization I take part in helps to bring awareness to the rise in drug use and overdose. After receiving my High School diploma I am now pushing for my Associates in Liberal Arts and my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. In my free time, I enjoy traveling to meet with friends throughout the island chain.

Ashton Naehu

2023 OD2A-C3 Fellow

Ashton Naehu, like many Moloka’i babies, was born on O’ahu but raised on the island of Moloka’i. He is the oldest of 3 boys. He is a high school senior at Molokai High School and has taken Early College courses at UHMC, getting a jump start on college, and earning dual credits for high school and college. He is passionate about the outdoors, fishing, diving, and hunting which provides food for his family. He is potentially interested in a Maritime career. Ashton’s family has been affected by substance use and he is interested in learning how to help his family and community live drug-free. He hopes to pass on the knowledge he gains in the OD2A-C3 Program to those who want a better life.
